Decorating a small space

Home is where the heart lives and your space is your creation of paradise, no matter the size, you deserve comfort. Having a small space does not eliminate you from achieving your perfect home. Some of the same techniques used to decorate a large space are used, to decorate your small one. All it takes is for you to use that flair and bring to life your dream home. After following the tips bellows, you will be amazed at the transformation you have achieved and realize it “wasn’t so challenging after all.”

  1. Ensure that your spaces are clutter-free

A crowded space will feel smaller than it is. Ensure the pathway is clear and decorated with a few pieces of large furniture. A small space does not need much furniture. It is important to note that visual clutter can also be created by too many or conflicting patterns throughout the room. Most importantly, keep the space neat and organized.

  1. Avoid stripes and bright coloured cushions

Even though dark colours are the new “trend”, it is best to use light subtle colours when decorating your small space. This will create a warm calming oasis which is just the feeling you would want to achieve after a long hectic day. Ensure your cushions are neutral coloured and complement your sofa. The trick is to be able to breathe in your space. Simply put, if you can exhale after entering your home, then you are right on track.

  1. Use Mirrors and reflective surface

The trick to magnifying a small space is placing a mirror on both sides of the room. Placing mirrors next to a window reflects light and brings together both the exterior and interior of the home. If using small mirrors, it is best to place them in groupings as it will be more effective in brightening your space.

  1. Divide/Define Space without walls and doors

Divide and conquer! An initial solution to upscale and widen spaces is to reduce the amount of standard solid partitions or walls and replace them with alternative means of spatial separation.

If done properly, this easy and affordable step would optimize airflow and natural light propagation in your small space. (archdaily.com)
